Just Breathe

Lately life has been amazing, well in a way. I have learned that through the many hard times, it is best to focus on the good.

Though there have been some challenges this summer, a big one, being away from my best friends in Minnesota, it has pushed me out of my comfort zone.

This experience has taught me a lot about myself and the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. Being lonely is a difficult feeling, but learning to thrive alone is something else.

Over this past month in a new city away from most of my close friends, I have pushed myself to meet new people and be open minded about new experiences and I have been having the time of my life.

This proves that mindset is genuinely everything. On the contrary, it is important to learn to move past the things that shouldn’t matter. Don’t let someone tear you down and make you feel bad just because they don’t value your friendship and attention in the first place. Those people are not worth your time and will ultimately make you feel even worse at the end of the day. Instead, focus on strengthening your relationships with the people that you value.

There are people out there that genuinely care about you and are worth putting effort and time into. That being said, as a people pleaser, I have learned that it is not worth the trouble to expend your energy on the people that don't appreciate you.

On a positive note, I encourage you to strive to be yourself and stick to your morals. Don’t change for other people. Listen to what you think is right and follow your dreams and aspirations. Being ambitious is an amazing trait, so make use of it. If you have goals, pursue them and accomplish them.

I like to think that even though I don’t have all that I want in life, that can not stop me from working for it. It is encouraged to work towards your goals and fulfill your dreams even if they intimidate you. Many people flee from their passions and dreams in fear of becoming victims of failure. However, it is failure that will ultimately strengthen your successes and drive you to exceed your own expectations.

In the midst of making your dreams a reality, it is also vital to take time away for yourself. Many people say they don’t have time for the things that they love. But if you step back and just breathe and reflect on everything that you have going on in your life, you will recognize that there are ways that you can make time to do things for yourself that you enjoy.

For example, the other day after I returned home from work I planned to just go on my phone and get ready for bed. Then, I realized, why not use this time to disconnect for a little and spend time doing something that brings me joy. Rather than wasting time away on social media, I decided to paint outside on my deck. It made me so happy and was self rewarding and therapeutic in a way. I still had plenty of time to rest, relax, and go on my phone later.

This is one of many examples. If you have time that you would normally just waste away on your phone, why not replace this time with something you haven’t done in a while that you would like to do. Bake something, go to the gym, go for a walk, play music, read a book, literally whatever your heart desires. It is ok to be impulsive once in a while. Try to spend your time doing something genuine because the sense of accomplishment that you experience afterwards is well worth the effort.

At the end of the day, just breathe. Reflect on all that you have to look forward to. Think about all of the amazing experiences that you have already had. Consider your accomplishments and what you can do to work towards making more. Realize that your life is what you make it and it is ok to slow down once in a while.

Simply stepping away from the chaos to recognize all that is in front of you really puts things into perspective and diminishes all of the little things that may be causing you stress. Those little things that make you worry so much probably won’t matter a few years or even a few days from now so learn to let them go and focus on the good as well as your personal well being. You need to take care of yourself so that you can be there for others.

Going, going, going, never gets you anywhere. However, finding a destination and appreciating what is around you brings your life purpose. Therefore, go embrace being yourself and start working towards your goals because I believe in you, even if it feels like no one else does.
