The other day I had the privilege of going to brunch with my mom and grandma and my grandma said something that really stuck out to me. She mentioned how everyone is always in a hurry and that people need to slow down. I couldn't agree more. Especially in today’s society, time is precious. People are constantly rushing to accomplish things in a timely manner. However, when you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, what is the rush? Taking a moment to slow down and appreciate the here and the now is essential. That being said, if you are reading this right now, take it as a sign to appreciate your life in this very moment.
I am sure that there are some things in your life that aren’t necessarily ideal, but there is also so much to look forward to and so many incredible things to be grateful for. Simply having the opportunity to set goals for yourself and achieve them is something in itself. That being said, if people continue to live their lives in a constant rush, the best moments are going to be over in the blink of an eye.

Mya, Remmi, and Kari Living in the Moment, September 7, 2023.
This past weekend during parents weekend, I went out with some girlfriends and looked further into this. I started asking parents for words of advice and the ultimate consensus was to make the most of your life right now. Though time is precious, it seriously runs out so quickly. I talked to several moms who said it felt like they were in college just yesterday. Even seniors in college this year say that it flies by. However, even if you’re not a college student, this still applies to you.
Many individuals get caught up in the chaos of life and soon enough forget to live it. Living life is appreciating the little things and spending time with people that really care about you. Surround yourself with people that you love and make time for the things that you love to do. It is too easy to put things off until “tomorrow”. Realistically speaking, tomorrow never comes. I know that was dark sorry, but seriously make time for the things that you love now and ensure to get your priorities straight.
In other words, take time to get to know yourself and what really matters to you and make time for those things. Doing the things that you love is so incredibly important. This drove me towards discovering my major in college and influenced my decisions on what I wanted to do with my life. You have one life, so live it the way that you intend to. It's ok to be overly ambitious sometimes because, I know it's cliche, but you don’t know until you try. This means putting yourself out there and making yourself uncomfortable so you can learn to be comfortable in the unknown and stay true to yourself no matter the circumstances.
One thing that I personally prioritize is the concept of learning to work to live rather than living to work. It is ok not to always strive to be the best at everything and fill all of your time working to please others. Working to live allows you to enjoy the little things, slow down, and live in the moment. This also conveys the importance of doing what you love so the work that you perform is meaningful and intentional. It is vital to love what you do because passion fuels success and ultimately happiness.
Slow down, right now you have all of the time in the world and it is your responsibility to make the most of it while you can so that one day you can look back and say “I did that” rather than, “I wish I did that”.
