Recently, I had a near death experience at the age of 19. This changed me as a person and here is why.
Prior to this experience, I unknowingly took everything for granted. Each day I woke up and just expected there to be a tomorrow. The reality is, you never really know when the end will come. No one knows the exact date when their life is going to be over and that's the brutal truth.
Watching my heart rate drop on the monitor was nothing short of terrifying because I still felt like there was so much life left to live. After recovering from my hospitalization, I came to realize that life is short, and time is precious. Now, I feel obligated to do all that I can and more to live my life fully and with intention.
To me, this does not mean just going back to how everything was before the incident, but to me this means, why not start embarking on the things that I used to shy away from. Everyone is blessed with one life, so why not make the most of it?
I believe that to live life fully and intentionally you need to put yourself out there, embarrass yourself, and risk failure because it is failure that leads you to your successes.
Though it's cliche, everyone learns from their mistakes. In other words, why not risk making mistakes when you are bound to learn so much from them?
Now, I am not encouraging you to go be reckless, but I am intending to inspire you to pursue your passions. Do the things that you feel driven to try and enjoy them, even if it turns out to be something that you’re not so good at.
The lessons that people learn from genuine experiences are life long and will shape you into the amazing person that you are destined to become.
This leads me into the idea that you should not take your life for granted. I am saying this because I myself did. I woke up everyday thinking nothing of the amazing opportunities I have been given and the privileges that I have.
Simply taking a step back and admiring the beautiful world that we live in is something that I, like many others, need to work on. Just yesterday, I went stargazing with one of my best friends and it made my heart so full. It revealed to me that it is the little things in life that give your life purpose.

After returning from the hospital, I realized that It is a privilege to be able to go to class, to work, to be alive. Nearly everything is a privilege in moderation, and it is your responsibility to recognize these privileges and turn them into opportunities.
You are in control of your life and how you perceive it. Rather than waking up everyday with a pessimistic mindset, try to focus on the good things in your life, because they will ultimately drive you to find your purpose.
